San Andreas State Police Policies of Interest to the General Public
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to uphold the integrity and impartiality of the San Andreas State Police (SASP) by providing clear guidelines on the acceptance of gifts, gratuities, meals, and drinks offered by the public. This policy aims to prevent any real or perceived conflicts of interest that may arise from such offerings.
Policy Statement
San Andreas State Police staff shall not accept any gifts, gratuities, or services from the public to avoid any appearance of impropriety or conflict of interest. This includes, but is not limited to, free meals, drinks, or vehicle repairs. Staff members are required to handle such situations with integrity and professionalism by following the guidelines outlined below.
Guidelines
Meals and Drinks
Declining Offers: If offered free meals or drinks, SASP staff should politely decline.
Providing a Tip: If it is not feasible to decline, staff should provide the establishment a tip equivalent to the entire value of the goods received. This ensures that no gratuities are accepted without compensation.
Vehicle Repairs
Insisting on Payment: If vehicle repairs are offered at no cost by a mechanic or a mechanic shop, SASP staff should insist on paying for the services rendered.
Providing a Tip: If the mechanic shop refuses to accept payment, staff should provide a tip in the full amount of the services received.
Enforcement
Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination. It is the responsibility of all SASP staff to uphold the principles of integrity and ethical conduct in all interactions with the public.
Review and Updates
This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to ensure continued relevance and compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Purpose
To ensure the safety of the general public and San Andreas State Police Troopers by mandating adherence to traffic laws and regulations while on duty, except when responding to active calls requiring immediate response.
Policy Statement
All San Andreas State Police Troopers are required to follow all traffic laws while on duty, except when responding to an active call. This includes obeying posted speed limits and all other rules of the road.
Procedures
Compliance with Traffic Laws
Troopers must adhere to all traffic laws, including posted speed limits, stop signs, traffic signals, and other regulations.
Troopers are expected to set a positive example for the public by demonstrating responsible driving behaviors at all times.
Speed Limit Adherence
Troopers must not exceed posted speed limits unless responding to an active call where urgency justifies such action.
High rates of speed pose significant risks to public safety and will not be tolerated under any circumstances when not responding to an active call.
Exceptions for Active Calls
When responding to an active call that requires immediate intervention, Troopers may exceed posted speed limits, provided it is done with due regard for the safety of all road users.
Troopers must use emergency lights and sirens to alert other drivers when exceeding speed limits in response to an active call.
Administrative Actions for Non-Compliance
Troopers found to be in violation of this policy by speeding or otherwise failing to adhere to traffic laws without justification will be subject to administrative actions.
Administrative actions for non-compliance may include, but are not limited to, verbal or written warnings, suspension, and termination of employment.
Reporting and Accountability
Supervisors are responsible for monitoring Trooper compliance with this policy and for investigating any reported or observed violations.
Troopers are encouraged to report any instances of policy non-compliance they witness, ensuring accountability within the force.
Enforcement
This policy will be enforced through regular supervision and monitoring. Troopers who violate this policy will face administrative actions up to and including termination, in accordance with the severity and frequency of the violations.
Review and Revision
This policy will be reviewed annually and revised as necessary to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with current laws and best practices.
By adhering to this policy, the San Andreas State Police aim to maintain public trust and ensure the safety of both the public and law enforcement officers.

Purpose
To establish guidelines for the use of pepper spray by troopers of the San Andreas State Police (SASP), ensuring it is used safely, effectively, and only when necessary.
Policy
Pepper spray is a non-lethal use-of-force option that troopers may deploy to subdue a subject when other options, such as a taser, are not viable or have proven ineffective. The following procedures must be adhered to in order to ensure compliance with SASP policies and the safety of all individuals involved.
Procedures
1) Authorization for Use
Troopers are authorized to use pepper spray only under the following conditions:
The taser is not an option due to environmental conditions, equipment malfunction, or other valid reasons.
The taser has been expended with no effect on the subject.
2) Deployment Protocol
Prior to deploying pepper spray, troopers must give a clear verbal warning to the subject, if feasible, to allow the subject an opportunity to comply voluntarily.
Pepper spray must be aimed at the subject's facial area, ensuring it is used in a manner to maximize effectiveness while minimizing potential harm.
Troopers must wait at least 60 seconds between each deployment of pepper spray to allow the substance to take effect and to assess the subject's response.
Troopers are prohibited from using pepper spray more than twice on a single subject during the same encounter.
3) Post-Deployment Actions
Once the subject is subdued, Medical assistance must be offered to the subject if they request it or if they display signs of severe distress.
Troopers must document the use of pepper spray in their incident report, detailing the circumstances leading to its use, the number of deployments, and the actions taken following its use.
4) Review and Accountability
Each use of pepper spray will be reviewed by Command Staff to ensure compliance with this SOP and other relevant policies.
Any deviations from this SOP will be subject to investigation and may result in disciplinary action.
Compliance
All troopers of the San Andreas State Police must adhere to this Standard Operating Procedure when using pepper spray. Non-compliance may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to suspension or termination.

Purpose:
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for the San Andreas State Police (SASP) regarding the reduction of sentences and fines for individuals in custody. This policy ensures that any reductions are applied fairly and within established limits.
Policy:
1. Authority to Reduce Sentences and Fines:
Troopers of the San Andreas State Police are authorized to reduce the sentence and fines of an individual by up to 30% based on the circumstances surrounding the incident and the individual's behavior during the interaction.
Any reduction exceeding 30% must be approved by a Lieutenant or higher-ranking officer within the SASP. Such approval must be documented with a detailed explanation for the decision.
2. Prohibition of Sentencing Reduction as a Bargaining Tool:
Under no circumstances shall a sentencing reduction be offered as a bargaining chip to compel a suspect to plead guilty. The integrity of the SASP's judicial processes must be maintained, and any misuse of this authority will not be tolerated.
If any trooper is found to be using the possibility of a reduced sentence to influence a suspect's plea, they will face severe disciplinary action, which may include suspension, demotion, or termination.
3. Documentation and Reporting:
Troopers who apply a sentence or fine reduction must document the decision in their report, including the percentage of the reduction and the rationale behind it.
If a reduction above 30% is granted by a Lieutenant or higher, the approving officer must also document their approval and justification for the decision.
4. Review and Oversight:
All sentence reductions, particularly those above 30%, are subject to review by the SASP Internal Affairs Division to ensure compliance with this policy and prevent any misuse of authority.
Compliance:
All members of the San Andreas State Police are expected to comply with this policy. Violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action in accordance with SASP regulations and procedures.

Purpose: This policy outlines the conditions under which community service may be offered as part of a sentencing decision by the San Andreas State Police (SASP). The goal is to ensure that community service is applied appropriately and in accordance with the severity of the offense.
Policy:
Eligibility for Community Service:
Community service may only be offered to suspects who have pled guilty to the charges against them.
The option of community service is only available if the suspect's final sentencing is 25 months or less.
If a suspect’s final sentencing exceeds 25 months (i.e., 26 months or longer), they must serve their time in Bolingbroke Penitentiary without the option of community service.
Documentation and Reporting:
Troopers who sentence a suspect to community service must document the decision in the arrest report, including the number of hours assigned and the justification for offering community service instead of jail time.
Prohibition of Community Service in Lieu of Longer Sentences:
Under no circumstances may community service be offered as a substitute for sentences of 26 months or longer. The severity of such offenses necessitates incarceration at Bolingbroke Penitentiary.
Review and Oversight:
The application of community service as part of a sentence is subject to review by SASP supervisors to ensure compliance with this policy and the fair treatment of all suspects.
Any misuse or improper application of this policy will result in disciplinary action.
